Lively beaches, rare wildlife species, cool retreats, cardamom hills, full-of-life backwaters, soaring temples, a galore of festivals (Hinduism in South was least altered by the external influence and it's at its most exuberant). The Temple towns of the south are quite unlike those of the North and superbly elaborate. The cuisine is dramatically different, with a culture that's second to none.
Chennai is known for its cultural heritage and temple architecture. It is also a hub for South Indian classical music and dance performances . Places to see are the Kapaleeswarar Temple, Museum and the St. George fort.
Kanchipuram is famous for its good quality silk and silken saris that it produces. This is one of the seven sacred cities of India. Its temples are spectacular and the gopums can be seen from miles away.
Mahabalipuram is famous for its shore temples and rock carvings. The biggest attraction here is, its miles of unspoiled beaches and rock-cut art. Chettinad is famous for its extravagant and artistic houses and unique architecture and a visit to the region never fails to fascinate its visitors. The enchantingly beautiful mansions and houses of the Chettinad are known for their unique architectural styles, which makes Chettinad a place of rare charm and a tourist destination with a difference. Madurai  The whole city is laid out in the shape of a lotus flower with the Meenakshi temple in the center. The high point is the hall of a thousand pillars, which was built around 1560. Other places of interest are the Tirumalai Nayak Palace and the Mariamman Teppakkulam Tank. Kumarakom The voyage takes you to the famous rich green, sleepy little village. Kumarakom on the Vembanad Lake is an experience that will be truly exhilarating. Laze around at the resort. Go for an Ayurveda massage to rejuvenate yourself. A short houseboat cruise on the famous backwaters with lunch on board is a dream of all. Cochin truly a museum city. Vasco de Gama first arrived in Cochin in 1502.  See a Kathakkali dance drama which is a must while in Cochin. Visit various museums and Palaces in abundance in Cochin. Walk around the Fort area watching the Chinese fishing nets and local fishermen displaying proudly their catch of the day. A sunset harbour cruise can be very rewarding.
Kovalam is an enchanting strip of golden sands laced with the rich greenery of coconut palms; from where it derives its name. It is a former fishing village, and is just 16kms away from Trivandrum, Kerala's capital city. Kovalam is an evergreen and pleasant climatic beach destination. It is a dream place for tourists from all over the world. Today Kovalam beach is known as the "Paradise of the South".
